0 to Drakefist
A Powerleveling Guide
for Blacksmithing

This guide is based on previous work by Willhelm, Highlander and Celaborn. Much appreciation to them for their excellent Blacksmithing guides.

The Drakefist Hammer is the best main hand weapon a Rogue can make, at least until you upgrade to a Dragonmaw/Dragonstrike. This mace hits like a truck and has a nice haste proc effect. However, in order to wield this weapon, you must give up one of your professions to become a Master Hammersmith. And the journey from 0 to Drakefist (350 Blacksmithing) is not an easy one. You'll need to spend a great deal of resources to aquire the necessary materials to powerlevel your Blacksmithing skill and eventually craft this mighty hammer. Having recently done the research and completed a Drakefist for myself, I've mapped out what I believe to be the best route to take in order to minimize wasted time and gold.

This guide is based upon the following assumptions:

1. You have reached level 70 (or are close to it) and want to powerlevel your Blacksmithing skill to 350 as quickly as possible.

2. You are only interested in trainer recipes and/or recipes that can be obtained with minimal effort.

3. You have an alt set aside to hold all of the materials you'll need to level up your blacksmithing. I recommend sending mats to your alt in the order provided below, and when you're ready, returning them in reverse order.

4. Whenever possible, you'll only want to craft items that are Orange difficulty, for 100% skill gain. When required to craft Yellow and/or Green difficulty items, I've adjusted the required materials to account for less than 100% skill gain per item created. I've also listed alternate recipes and materials in red to give you additional options to consider.

Total Materials Needed to Get From 0 to Drakefist

Listed below are the materials you'll need and the order in which you should craft items to get to 350 Blacksmithing as efficiently as possible. It's highly recommended that you farm some of these materials yourself and/or purchase them from the auction house over a span of several days or weeks, because your need for certain items (Iron/Steel Bars, Solid Stone, Mithril Bars, Thorium Bars, etc.) will most likely surpass the available supply on the AH at any given time.

Get the limited supply recipes for Moonsteel Broadsword (Zarena Cromwind, Booty Bay) and Massive Iron Axe (Jaquilina Dramet, Stranglethorn Vale - Alliance) / (Vharr, Stranglethorn Vale - Horde)

193 - 196 Moonsteel Broadsword (8 Steel Bar, 2 Strong Flux, 2 Heavy Grinding Stone, 3 Lesser Moonstone, 3 Heavy Leather) x 4 (Save for Weaponsmith quest)

197 - 200 Massive Iron Axe (14 Iron Bar, 2 Strong Flux, 2 Heavy Grinding Stone, 4 Gold Bar, 2 Heavy Leather) x 4 (Save for Weaponsmith quest)

After level 200, learn Artisan Blacksmithing from Brikk Keencraft in Booty Bay. He also provides level 200+ recipes.

201 - 210 Solid Grinding Stone (4 Solid Stone) x 227 (You will need most or all of these later - save them until level 300)

236 - 250 Mithril Spurs (4 Mithril Bar, 3 Solid Grinding Stone) x 15 (Get this recipe off the AH or you’re going to have a *really* hard time leveling to 275)
(ALT) 238 - 250 Mithril Coif (10 Mithril Bar, 6x Mageweave Cloth) x 15 (Only make these if you are unable to find the Mithril Spurs recipe)

251 - 260 Dense Sharpening Stone (1 Dense Stone) x 30

Wait until level 265+ to knock out the next few steps all at one time:

After level 235 (Big Black Mace), learn Weaponsmithing by turning in the weapons you crafted to Myolor Sunderfury - Alliance, Krathok Moltenfist - Horde
After level 260, get the Light Skyforged / Earthforged / Emberforged recipes from Ironus Coldsteel - Alliance, Kelgruk Bloodaxe - Horde if you plan on making any of those alternate recipe items (see notes below).
After level 265, turn in 30 Thorium Bar to Derotain Mudsipper in Gadgetzan to get the Imperial Plate Boots/Bracers recipes.
After level 250, learn Master Hammersmithing by talking to Lilith the Lithe in Everlook (The Sweet Serenity quest is no longer a requirement.)

261 - 275 Mithril Spurs (4 Mithril Bar, 3 Solid Grinding Stone) x 50 (Make the minimum necessary to reach level 275 or switch to one of the alts below)
(ALT) 261 - 275 Light Skyforged Axe (12 Mithril Bar, 4 Breath of Wind) x 15
(ALT) 261 - 275 Light Earthforged Blade (12 Mithril Bar, 4 Core of Earth) x 15
(ALT) 261 - 275 Light Emberforged Hammer (12 Mithril Bar, 4 Heart of Fire) x 15
(ALT) 271 - 275 Imperial Plate Bracers (12 Thorium Bar) x 5

276 - 295 Imperial Plate Bracers (12 Thorium Bar) x 25
Note: Originally, I recommended making Mithril Weapons for this range, but further research has led me to believe that making Imperial Plate Bracers is more cost effective for powerlevelers. If the average price of 12 Mithril Bars + 4 Elemental Drops (or 24 Mithril Bars + 8 Elemental Drops from 281-295, assuming an average of two attempts per skill point) is less than 12 Thorium Bars (24 Thorium Bars from 291-295), then make the Mithril weapons instead. Unfortunately, many people are finding that the extremely low supply of Elemental Drops post-expansion make the alternate Mithril Weapon route difficult to implement.
(ALT) 276 - 295 Light Skyforged Axe (12 Mithril Bar, 4 Breath of Wind) x 35
(ALT) 276 - 295 Light Earthforged Blade (12 Mithril Bar, 4 Core of Earth) x 35
(ALT) 276 - 295 Light Emberforged Hammer (12 Mithril Bar, 4 Heart of Fire) x 35

296 - 300 Imperial Plate Boots (18 Thorium Bar) x 5

After level 275, learn Master Blacksmithing and pick up recipes below from the Grand Master Blacksmith in Hellfire Peninsula (Humphry - Alliance, Rohok - Horde)

301 - 310 Fel Iron Plate Gloves (4 Fel Iron Bar) x 10
(ALT) 301 - 310 Fel Weightstone (1 Fel Iron Bar, 1 Netherweave Cloth) x 20
(ALT) 301 - 320 Enchanted Thorium Blades (2 Enchanted Thorium Bars, 6 Thorium Bars, 1 Rugged Leather) x 20
(ALT) 301 - 320 Imperial Plate Chest (20 Thorium Bar) x 20

311 - 315 Fel Iron Plate Belt (4 Fel Iron Bar) x 5

316 - 320 Fel Iron Chain Gloves (5 Fel Iron Bar) x 5

321 - 325 Fel Iron Plate Boots (6 Fel Iron Bar) x 5

326 - 330 Fel Iron Chain Tunic (9 Fel Iron Bar) x 5

331 - 335 Fel Iron Breastplate (10 Fel Iron Bar) x 5

336 - 340 Adamantite Cleaver (8 Adamantite Bar) x 5 (Aaron Hollman - Shattrath City, Arras - The Exodar, Eriden - Silvermoon City) - Limited Supply (1)

341 - 350 Lesser Rune of Shielding (1 Adamantite Bar) x 30 (Mari Stonehand, Shadowmoon Valley - Alliance / Rohok, Hellfire Peninsula - Horde) - Limited Supply (1)

Yay! Time to make your Drakefist Hammer now, right? Wrong. Drakefist Hammer is a guaranteed skill point between 351-360, so save it until that 360th point, assuming you want to keep leveling Blacksmithing and upgrade to Dragonmaw someday.

351 - 359 Adamantite Weightstone (1 Adamantite Bar, 2 Netherweave Cloth) x 20 (Fedryen Swiftspear, Zangarmarsh - Requires Honored rep with Cenarion Expedition which is easy to get)

Step-by-Step: Drakefist to Dragonmaw

Beyond 360, you'll need to acquire Primal Nethers (through Heroics or the AH), grind faction with Scryers/Aldor and/or collect rare/epic recipes to reach 375 Blacksmithing to make Dragonmaw. The path from Drakefist to Dragonmaw could take a while and you may have to farm a lot of materials and/or spend hundreds or even thousands of gold to get there.

361 - 370 Khorium Belt (3 Khorium Bar, 2 Primal Water, 2 Primal Mana) x 10 (Rare recipe you can solo farm from Murkblood Raiders in Nagrand. Easier than grinding Scryers/Aldor rep?)
(ALT) 361 - 365 Enchanted Adamantite Belt (2 Hardened Adamantite Bar, 8 Arcane Dust, 2 Large Prismatic Shard) x 5 (Requires Scryers Friendly rep)
(ALT) 366 - 370 Enchanted Adamantite Breastplate (4 Hardened Adamantite Bar, 20 Arcane Dust, 4 Large Prismatic Shard) x 5 (Requires Scryers Revered rep)
(ALT) 361 - 370 Flamebane Gloves (8 Fel Iron Bar, 4 Primal Water, 4 Primal Fire) x 10 (Requires Aldor Honored rep)
(ALT) 361 - 370 Felsteel Gloves (6 Felsteel Bar) x 10 (Rare recipe you can solo farm from Auchenai Monks in Auchenai Crypts)

371 - 375 Khorium Boots (4 Khorium Bar, 3 Primal Water, 3 Primal Mana) x 5 (Rare recipe you can solo farm from Disembodied Protectors in Netherstorm. Easier than grinding Scryers/Aldor rep?)
(ALT) 371 - 375 Enchanted Adamantite Leggings (4 Hardened Adamantite Bar, 24 Arcane Dust, 4 Large Prismatic Shard) x 5 (Requires Scryers Exalted rep)
(ALT) 371 - 375 Flamebane Breastplate (16 Fel Iron Bar, 6 Primal Water, 4 Primal Fire) x 5 (Requires Aldor Revered rep)

375 Dragonmaw (1 Drakefist Hammer, 8 Primal Nether, 2 Primal Might) x 1 (Recipe can be obtained from Weapon Crafter Kradu Grimblade in Lower City, Shattrath City)

Dragonmaw to Dragonstrike

To upgrade to Dragonstrike, you'll need to acquire Nether Vortexes, which drop off random mobs in Serpentshrine Cavern or you can purchase them with Badges or on the AH.

375 Dragonstrike (1 Dragonmaw, 5 Nether Vortex) x 1 (Recipe can be obtained from Weapon Crafter Kradu Grimblade in Lower City, Shattrath City)
